We'll never email you about anything else (unless you opt in.)
In the meantime (& always), may we recommend:
GUIDELINES (ARCHIVED)
Our submissions are open to everyone, everywhere; however, we especially look to publish marginalized creatives. This is not up for debate, and neither are our rejections. The Editors’ decisions are final.
Please also note that though we enjoy the risky and the risqué, we do not want gratuitously violent or sexual fantasies. Neither do we want work that objectively condones/promotes bigotry of any kind. This type of content can get you banned from submitting. (It's always clearly intended to offend. If you're worried about accidentally sending us something like this, you're probably in the clear.)
We reserve the right to reject/take down work from any submitter/contributor we find to have committed hateful, abusive, or plagiarizing behaviour.
Where/how to send your work:
Submissions must be sent in via the appropriate Google Form (all found under their specific categories below). Work sent anywhere else will not be read.
Don’t stress about the formatting—please keep it simple, and with a readable font. Double-spaced prose, single-spaced poetry.
Cover letters are optional, but much appreciated, and if you like, tell us a little bit about yourself while you’re at it. Official bios will be requested upon acceptance; we don’t care so much about your past publications as much as we’d like to know about the writer behind the pages.
You may submit to up to two categories at once (i.e., you can submit a work of fiction as well as three poems—but not fiction, poetry and CNF). Please, just one submission per category, per reading period.
If we decline your work, please wait until the next reading period to re-submit, unless we personally invite you to submit again earlier.
Regular submissions are free and we’ll get back to you in about a month (but please do not query until 2 months have passed).
Expedited responses & responses with feedback:
We also offer special response options in exchange for small tips. We much appreciate and encourage these submissions, as they help to keep the website running and pay our editors & contributors!
To choose one of these options, please visit our Ko-Fi page and make a donation of one of the following amounts:
$6 USD for a response with general/overview feedback.
$9 USD per page for detailed feedback.
Unfortunately, feedback options are only available for submissions of writing.
Afterwards, please submit your work via the PAID SUBMISSIONS form (linked below the guidelines).
Please note that one donation covers one submission (for example, 1 short story or 3 poems). A paid submission does not increase your chances of publication.
Rights and payment:
Submissions must have never appeared in another publication. Work published on a personal site is okay, as long as it is taken down upon acceptance (art and photography are an exception to this and are okay to stay up). Otherwise, we do not take reprints except by solicitation; the vast majority of our published pieces shall be unsolicited and previously unpublished.
By submitting to Wrongdoing, you are confirming that all of the enclosed work is original and belonging to you.
Simultaneous submissions are perfectly fine, but please do e-mail us right away at wrongdoingmag@gmail.com if a work is accepted elsewhere.
Revision requests will be honored upon acceptance if desired. We will also inform you of any minor edits we might wish to make to your piece. Please do not send revisions before receiving an acceptance, unless they're substantial and you really believe they'll affect our judgment of the work; if that is the case, then please do not fill out an additional sub form (just email us).
We acquire First Serial Rights to the works that we accept for publication. Upon acceptance, your piece may not appear anywhere else until we publish it—at which point the rights revert back to you, the contributor.
Please credit Wrongdoing Magazine as first publisher when you republish work that originated with us. We also reserve the right to archive and of course promote your writing or art. Should we wish to anthologize works previously published by us, we'll always reach out to the author/artist for permission to reprint them.
We current pay a small honorarium of $10 CAD per contributor. We also strongly believe in giving every contributor a dedicated, personalized & lasting run of promotion. We nominate works for the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and Best Small Fiction anthologies.
